The Mohegan nation’s recorded history begins with their emergence as a distinct people following their separation from the Pequot confederation in 1637, though their roots in the region extend far deeper into ancestral time. Led by Uncas, the Mohegans allied with English colonists during the Pequot War, a decision that enabled them to maintain control of their lands while surrounding tribes were displaced.

The obverse of the 2026 Colorized Native America the Beautiful Connecticut Silver Coin depicts members of the Mohegan Hill church congregation assembled together. Established in the early 1700s on Mohegan Hill in present-day Montville, Connecticut, the Mohegan Congregational Church reflects a blending of Christian worship and the continued cultural traditions of the Mohegan people. The modest wooden structure served as a focal point for community life, offering a place of worship while allowing the Mohegan to preserve their cultural identity.

On the reverse of the 2026 1 oz Colorized NATB Connecticut Silver Coin is the standard design used throughout the series. This side features the head of an American bald eagle positioned within an eight-pointed star, with arrowheads placed between each point around the star’s perimeter.
