Title:

Zorro

Synopsis:
Synopsis for ”Deal with the Devil!”
Zorro, off in a distance sees the arrival of the Royal Spanish army and wonders about the reason for their arrival outside the Pueblo of Los Angeles . Mefisto Palomarez confronts Mendoza on arrival and ask to speak to the Alcalde. The Alcalde knows of the reputation of Palomarez as a master swordsman and a butcher. Palomarez explains his mission is to kill Zorro as his legacy had reached as far as Madrid. The plan was to have one citizen executed by hanging every day, until Zorro turned himself in. Even the Alcalde thought this was extreme. Don Diego confronts Palomarez about this and how it would not work, because Zorro’s identity was secret. Palomarez thinks that perhaps it is worth testing.

Eventually, the first to be executed will be Mendoza himself. Even the Alcalde seems compassionate and caring for the citizens when compared to Palomarez. Don Diego, back at Zorro’s lab, is making some gunpowder. Then as Zorro, he visits Palomarez and makes a deal with him. It was to be a sword duel on the field of honor. But Zorro is taken captive and placed in the jail cell next to Mendoza. Zorro summons, his horse, Toronado outside his cell, and is able to get his sword and some gun powder, which he eventually effects an escape with. He reminds Palomarez of the duel they will face tomorrow. Mendoza is still scheduled to be hanged.

Zorro creates a diversion with the gunpowder, and it seems that an army might be attacking the Pueblo, and the military leaves to confront the enemy, leaving Mendoza behind on the gallows and Palomarez as well. Zorro cuts Mendoza down with a crossbow off in a distance. Palomarez then understands the diversion and confronts Zorro.

Palomarez and Zorro exchange sword thrusts with each other, and Zorro is noted even complementing his adversary’s skill. Victoria and Mendoza exchange hopeful wishes that Zorro would triumph over Palomarez. The combatants are positioned near and eventually astride the gallows where Zorro was to have been hung. Zorro releases the trap door and Palomarez falls through , beaten, and is thrown on a waiting donkey provided by Victoria to take him out of town. Zorro encourages his men to leave as well.
