Title:

infinite crisis

Synopsis:
Infinite Crisis (2005) #5 - Written by Geoff Johns. Art by Phil Jimenez, Jerry Ordway, and Ivan Reis with inks by Andy Lanning, Jerry Ordway, and Art Thibert. Cover by George Pérez (variants by Jim Lee and a 2nd printing sketch cover by Jim Lee). The DC Universe shakes apart as Superman of Earth-Two finally confronts our Superman, heroes disappear across realities, a transformed villain returns, and mystics grapple with a destructive Spectre.

In the aftermath of cosmic upheaval, a somber gathering of superheroes on the newly designated Earth-One holds a makeshift memorial service for the fallen, while another group finds themselves inexplicably transported to the restored Earth-Two, grappling with their unfamiliar surroundings. Kal-L, the Superman of Earth-Two, momentarily celebrates saving his beloved wife, Lois Lane Kent, only for her to collapse as her remaining life force fades away. Overwhelmed by grief, he unleashes a piercing scream that echoes across dimensions, drawing the attention of Kal-El, the Superman of New Earth, who crosses over in an attempt to offer solace. Blinded by rage, Kal-L lashes out, blaming Kal-El for Lois’s demise, all while the scheming Alexander Luthor observes from his reality-altering machine, fully aware that Lois’s survival was never part of the equation.

Meanwhile, on Earth-One, Wonder Woman of New Earth intervenes in a chaotic riot, where terrified citizens recoil from her as a notorious killer. Her Earth-Two counterpart appears, whisking her away to mediate the escalating conflict between the two Supermen. The elder Wonder Woman urges her younger self to abandon her divine mission and embrace humanity, but as she and her invisible jet fade into oblivion, the New Earth Wonder Woman materializes amid the ruins of Earth-Two’s Metropolis, devastated by the Supermen’s brutal clash. Using her Lasso of Truth, she halts Kal-L, forcing him to confront the failures he attributes to her, Kal-El, and Batman in forging a "perfect Earth.” Kal-El’s poignant retort—that a perfect world requires no Superman—finally breaks through, leading Kal-L to cradle his wife’s lifeless body in a final, heartbreaking embrace.

Deep in the Batcave, Booster Gold arrives with Jaime Reyes, unveiling him to Batman as the new Blue Beetle and prompting his transformation to demonstrate his powers. Batman assembles a select team of heroes, including Booster and Beetle, aboard the Bug spacecraft to confront the rogue satellite Brother Eye. In the cosmic void at the universe’s center, Firestorm reconstitutes with Professor Martin Stein at the helm. Back at Luthor’s machine, Brother Eye channels energy into Kal-L, compelling him to spawn a cascade of parallel Earths that siphon heroes from their origins on Earth-One. From an empty Titans Tower, Nightwing witnesses the chaotic emergence of these worlds in the sky, some erupting in destruction. Restored from his prior battle, Conner Kent (Superboy) joins him, armed with a crystal from Lex Luthor pinpointing the machine’s location, as they move to dismantle Alexander Luthor’s plans.

In Japan, the Flash urgently warns Doctor Light of Superboy-Prime’s escape and impending arrival, setting the stage for further multiversal turmoil.
