Ghost Rider spies on the police cleaning up the latest murder scene left by the Zodiac killer. On the ride home, he stops a group of thugs from setting fire to a homeless couple. The next day, Dan meets Jack and Stacy at a restaurant, where he defends the Ghost Rider when the other two question the demon biker’s motives. In New Mexico, a man sits in shadows angrily watching news reports about Ghost Rider. Back in New York City, Dan drives around town searching for clues to the Zodiak killings. Seeing a dealer threatening a boy who tried to convince his friends not to buy drugs, Dan transforms and snatches the crook Meanwhile HEART accepts a contract from Deathwatch. Following information the dealer provided, Ghost Rider finds Zodiak, who claims his victims were all drug dealers whose employer paid him to eliminate and that the occult trappings he uses are merely a ruse to confuse the police: the two battle, but "Zodiak” reveals he is a mechanical doppelganger. The real Zodiak watches the battle from another rooftop and flees. The next day, Jack questions where Dan disappeared to last night, warning him not to ruin his relationship with Stacy, but Dan dismisses his concerns. And on a road out west the shadowed man is riding his motorbike towards New York, intent on killing Ghost Rider.
