Guest-starring Wolverine and Nick Fury. Nick Fury makes Sokolowski an offer the Ghost Rider isn’t going to like. But when Next Wave shows up to arrest the Spirit of Vengeance, a certain feral X-Man is on hand to help out.
A wounded Ghost Rider emerges from the river miles from where he plunged in; the explosion has destroyed most of his bike, leaving him with only the Medallion of Power while the rest lies at the bottom of the river. He repeatedly transforms painfully to Dan and back as Ghost Rider fights Dan for dominance, until finally Dan wins. As the police search for Ghost Rider, Nick Fury arrives and offers SHIELD training to Sokolowski and the Team. Wolverine finds Dan clutching the Medallion, and helps him escape. Hiding in a seedy hotel, the Next Wave gets a phone call from Frederick Penner, who informs them he sent their attackers, the Posse, in retribution for leaving his employ. Seconds later, the Posse bursts into their room. At a bar nearby, Dan tells Wolverine that because of Ghost Rider’s injuries, he is afraid he will die again if he becomes Ghost Rider, but Ghost Rider refuses to stay dormant. Ghost Rider tries again to trigger the transformation, prompting the bartender to call 911. As Ski receives orders to arrest the Next Wave, Wolverine subdues the responding police. Dan completes the transformation, and Wolverine and Ghost Rider return to the river to retrieve his bike. The pair then defeat the Posse and Next Wave and leave, despite a torn Stacy Dolan ordering them at gunpoint to stop. Once safely away, Ghost Rider becomes Dan again; when Wolverine points out that resisting the change is killing him, Dan responds that Ghost Rider is trying to control his entire life, and that he can’t risk dying for the Ghost Rider again. Elsewhere, Ski accepts Fury’s offer.
