Blackbirds

Rogue has a nightmare in which she uses her absorption powers to drain Wolverine, relishing the sensation. Perturbed, she confesses her dream to Storm, along with her guilt for abandoning Gambit in Antarctica. Storm attempts to comfort her, before she invites her to join the rest of them for a swim at the pond. Rogue later visits Joseph and offers to touch him, claiming she wishes to help him regain his memories. Joseph coldly rebuffs her, only further upsetting her. Meanwhile, Margaret Stone, an inspector for the Department of Education, visits the mansion, after Professor Xavier failed to file a report for his institution in over two years. Wolverine guides her to the premises and struggles to keep appearances. His efforts sink when Margaret comes across an inexplicably suffering Joseph. Indignant, she decides to put the institution on probation. Later, while searching for Rogue in the woods, Wolverine is drained dry by an unknown assailant. Shortly after the X-Men come across the remains of the old Blackbird in the bottom of the pond, they discover Wolverine unconscious, with Rogue kneeling above him. Storm naturally suspects her, hurting Rogue’s feelings, before the true culprit, Sauron, lashes out at the team. In outer space, Deathbird still keeps Bishop incapacitated, while in New York, Archangel is troubled by Psylocke’s bizarre behavior. In Alaska, Cyclops and Phoenix finally reach their new house, only to discover it completely covered in snow. Jean telekinetically clears the snow, leaving behind a cleared area in the shape of the Phoenix bird!
