Title:

The Amazing Spider-Man

Synopsis:
Puma, also known as Thomas Fireheart, undergoes a mystic tribal ceremony that confirms his prophesied destiny: to destroy the cosmic entity known as the Beyonder. Unsure whether to believe the legend but determined to honor his people, Fireheart returns to New York City to seek the help of Spider-Man. Knowing Peter Parker’s secret identity, Puma confronts him in his civilian life and offers a large sum of money if Spider-Man will assist in tracking down and killing the Beyonder.

Peter is still emotionally shaken by recent tragedies and the overwhelming power of the Beyonder from the Secret Wars II events. Torn between the chance to eliminate an existential threat and his refusal to become an assassin, he agrees to accompany Puma mainly to keep him from committing murder. Wearing his black costume, Spider-Man joins Puma in investigating leads, including a cult connected to the Beyonder and the being’s human guise. Together they infiltrate a building tied to the Cosmic Oneness cult and interrogate its leaders for information.

As the hunt narrows, Puma becomes more certain that fulfilling the prophecy is his sacred duty, while Spider-Man grows more conflicted, realizing that killing—even a dangerous cosmic entity—crosses a moral line. The Beyonder, meanwhile, observes their efforts with detached curiosity. Demonstrating his godlike power, he manipulates events from afar, even teleporting Puma halfway around the world to Japan to deal with his own business concerns, underscoring how insignificant their plans are before his power.

The issue climaxes as Peter’s frustration and fear lead him to call out to the Beyonder directly, inadvertently summoning the godlike being into his apartment. This confrontation sets the stage for an even greater moral and cosmic conflict, which continues in Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #111.
