Title:
X-Man
Synopsis:
Messiah Complex, Part 3: Media Blitz
Nate and Jam go to a basketball game to discuss Jam’s miraculously healed arm. Suddenly, there are gunshots, and a terrorist armed with a bomb reveals himself. He claims he is a Destabilizer, one of many, and that they are fighting for a world without borders. Nate short-circuits all mechanical systems within range, thus taking out the Destabilizers’ weapons and capturing them all. The crowd goes wild, and the capture is recorded on camera. Other forms of media are also keeping a watch on Nate, including the Daily Bugle newspaper, and Nate’s friend Peter Parker worries about him.
Nate and Jam arrive back at Nate’s apartment. Roust explains to Nate that he wants him to use his healing power to resurrect his dead brother, but Nate reminds him that he can’t raise the dead. Nate just wants to relax. He turns the television on, which has another report about him.
Dr Arlington shows Nate that he restored a houseplant that was once lifeless. He believes that some of Nate’s healing power was sent to him and that it was a combination of Nate’s power and his knowledge that created a “cure” for Jam’s arm. He wants Nate to take responsibility for his gifts, but Nate isn’t interested.
Marita wants some alone time with Nate, but he tells her that he isn’t her toy. He flies away and finds a huge crowd gathered below his apartment block, all chanting his name, with Bux leading the group.
At One Police Plaza, the Destabilizers are brought in for questioning. The media are on site and report on the developments. One of the Destabilizers explodes after having another weapon concealed, and the building is blown up. Nate realizes that this could be trouble for him, as he checked the Destabilizers out before they were arrested and didn’t detect any other weapons.
In a limousine, the Purple Man is with Flag-Smasher, and they celebrate their latest accomplishment. The Purple Man, however, wasn’t aware that the Destabilizers had sub-dermal fail-safes. He gets angry and uses his mind control to order Flag-Smasher to get out of the car. Flag-Smasher does so and falls off the side of a cliff. Bux is driving the limousine, and as the Purple Man is looking at a photo of his wife and daughter, he instructs her to drive to the “finish line” before it is too late for everyone.
