Title:
X-Force/Champions Annual
Synopsis:
The Demon Within
The Cult of Hades, led by Link, identifies Victoria as a traitor and performs a ritual that starts releasing a gigantic monstrous Titan into the Earthly plane. Alerted by Victoria, Hercules attacks the cult during their ritual, and Link uses Victoria as a hostage against Hercules. Traveling mutant heroes X-Force stumble onto the battle and help Hercules rout the cultists. Rescued by X-Force’s Cannonball, Victoria seems grateful and he encourages her apparent romantic interest. His jealous ex-girlfriend Meltdown is vocally suspicious of Victoria, but Cannonball defends the latter. Explaining the Titan can be banished via a spell performed by Hercules and his fellow Champions, a super-team that disbanded years ago, Hercules calls in ex-Champions Archangel, Black Widow, John Blaze and Iceman. The reunited Champions perform their spell, but it accelerates the Titan’s entry into the mortal world instead of reversing it. Link congratulates Victoria on manipulating the Champions. explains that the Titan will destroy the Champions for awakening him, gloats about how his cult and its ritual were decoys to lure the Champions in, reveals he is actually Hades/Pluto in disguise, and that he planted false memories in the Champions’ minds years ago, memories of him granting them the power to banish a Titan, while in fact he was giving them the power to summon a Titan. The Champions and X-Force attack Hades together, taunting him by saying he must be someone else’s pawn since this scheme is too grand for him, and Hades angrily boasts he alone is responsible for all this. Overhearing this, the Titan resolves to destroy Pluto, so Pluto flees, leaving Victoria behind. Acting on a plan devised by Siryn, the Champions recite their spell again, widening the Titan’s portal, while Moonstar terrifies the Titan with a mental image of t greatest fear, causing the Titan to flee through the portal back to its proper realm.
