Conan, Kulan Gath and Hobbs fly toward Conan’s village on the bone dragon. Gath tells Conan his story with Vammatar. A hundred years ago they battled over the bound Books of Shuma-Gorath. Vammatar had the books and Gath the key. They decided to form an alliance and get married. The books told them that Shuma-Gorath was imprisoned by Crom. So, they went to Crom’s mount, but Crom was too powerful. The book was lost, and both went away to lick their wounds.
The story is interrupted by the approach of a demon bird with two witchmen on it. Conan manages to kill the witchmen but falls off. He is rescued by two snowhawks and taken to meet Ursla. She was a witch that Conan met when he was fifteen. They fight off some zombies and Conan learns he had a son who he killed some issues back. He then goes to his village and finds that it has been destroyed.
This was a fascinating issue. We get to find out the reason that Gath is fighting Vammatar. What both are looking for and a little about Shuma-Gorath. This is the seventh chapter in the Coming of Shuma-Gorath. Conan finds out his tribe is indeed destroyed, and this motivates him for revenge against Vammatar. Shuma-Gorath is hinted at finally appearing next issue which is about time. Very curious to meet this mysterious character.
