Title:
Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos
Synopsis:
”--The End of the Road!”
After Fury’s episode he is temporarily reassigned from the Howling Commandos in order to train four new recruits. Turning them into soldiers is also a test for Fury to see if he’s able to return to active duty under the Howling Commandos. During the training Fury seems increasingly rage filled which makes him hard on the new recruits and eventually bumping heads with ladies man Lon Wilcox when Wilcox hits on a woman Fury has been chatting up. Fury doesn’t involve the military police but the incident shows his increase hostility. Even when his Corporal and friend Dum Dum Dugan asks if Fury is going a bit too hard on his recruits Fury responds by punching Dugan in the face.
After four weeks of training Fury’s small recruits are tasked with setting up charges to detonate some sea mines. During the mission they’re attacked by Nazi frogmen who end up killing one of the recruits, James Macreedy. However even despite the setback Macreedy’s death fuels bravery in a cowardly soldier by the name of Russ Talbert, Wilcox learns to trust Fury on a mission despite their differences, and the final recruit, Larry Freese, follows orders flawlessly. This leads to the mission’s overall success, albeit having put some of the men in the infirmary post-mission.
