Title:
Legion of Super-Heroes Annual
Synopsis:
Synopsis for ”Charade”
Glorith murders everyone on Daxam in a massive holocaust to prevent the power of the Daxamites getting into the wrong hands. The Legion of Super-Heroes has to fight her, but she is too powerful to risk everyone. Before they leave, Ultra Boy asks Saturn Girl not to take Lar and reveals a terrible secret to her that she cannot share with anyone. There is a squad sent led by Brainiac 5 including Duo Damsel, Lar Gand, Laurel Gand, Rond Vidar and Saturn Girl. The sorceress defeats all of them in turn easily. Saturn Girl lies wounded and Glorith picks up on her thoughts, learning the life story of Ultra Boy.
Ultra Boy was born on the planet Rimbor. His parents Crav and Mytra Nah, two independent farmers, taught him the value of his freedom from an early age, and he grew up with a tendency to avoid authority figures. On the streets, as a member of a gang, he learned several more lessons. Never let them know what you know. Don’t ever fight a battle unless it’s on your terms. Never let your guard down, they can get you at any time. These are the rules he lives his life by.

Phantom Girl?
The beginning of this issue is a large retcon establishing Glorithverse continuity. The Time Trapper altered history and created the Legion of Super-Heroes to fight against Mordru, but he was killed and all of his influence on the universe was erased.[1] Glorith took his position and replaced him to restore everything, and in doing so took his power and his identity.[2] The battle between Glorith and the Legionnaires on Baaldur is a retelling of an earlier fight involving the Trapper at the End of Time where he was seemingly killed.[3] Instigation for that battle was originally the death of Superboy, although this issue replaces it with a Daxam holocaust.[4]
Phantom Girl dies in this issue. It was originally believed that Glorith sent her back in time right beforehand to become a member of L.E.G.I.O.N. in place of R.J. Brande.[5] This trade-off was necessary to allow Brande to come to the future and become the financier that the Legion needed. However, it was later revealed that the woman sent back, Phase, was actually her sister, Enya Wazzo.[6] During Zero Hour, the Time Trapper brought Phantom Girl back briefly before the Legion was erased from existence and she was able to spend her last few minutes together with her husband.[7]
Trivia
This issue covers several years of time in the Legion’s history in the Glorithverse by the perspective of Ultra Boy and draws heavily from Legion continuity, despite including no footnotes nor any other reminders of the events referenced.
The final scenes take place in the year 2988.
This Annual fits in a sense between Legion of Super-Heroes (Volume 4) #4 and Legion of Super-Heroes (Volume 4) #5, being one of the first and most complete overall looks at the Glorithverse.
Glorith mentions the time that Darkseid took control of the Daxamites. This happened during the Great Darkness Saga.
The conflict with Omega, originally depicted in Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #250 and Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #251, is mentioned in passing.
