Title:

Metal Men

Synopsis:
Synopsis for ”Metal Men: The Metal Men vs. the Plastic Perils”
The Metal Men read ”fan” mail that’s getting more akin to hate-mail, so they leave Doctor Magnus in the lab and search for better opponents in their Jetaway.

The Motorcycle Marauders terrorize Coast City, but the Flash takes care of them.
Gangland crooks jump a rising drawbridge in Gotham City, but Batman and Robin chase them down and batter them.
Paula Von Gunta’s gang tries to break up Wonder Woman and Steve’s date at a Washington soda shop, but she ricochets them into submission.
Their ambition tempered, the Metal Men return to Magnus’s Lab, and Tin wonders what they are going to tell their readership. The gate crashes down and Dr. Irving Bravo screeches to a halt in his armored car full of cash. Ethylene gets out, and Iron assaults him, but the impact only turns Ethy into an army of Styrene.

The rubbery Styrene army easily bowled through the Metal Men and escaped. Repeatedly. And every attack produced new Plastic Gang members -- Silicone, Methacrylate and Polyethylene -- and the Metal Men cannot quench the Plastic’s advance.

Finally an over-confident Dr. Bravo brings his Plastic Gang back to Will Magnus’s Lab, where Platinum and Gold ladle molten metal onto the plastics and melt them into goo.

Trivia
Gold Earth-One 0001
As a self-reflexive joke; the Metal Men read fan mail complaining about the quality of their monthly comic, and Batman assesses how the dynamic duo’s battle will appear on their television series.
The fan letter that the Metal Men read is from Irene Vartanoff, who was a very real -- and constant -- letter writer. The editors published over 100 of her letters in Silver Age DC comics of all titles.
