Title:
Ghost Rider: Marvel Knights
Synopsis:
Gunmetal Gray, the killer biker, has set his sights on Ghost Rider ? and the best way to get to our skull-headed hero is through his mortal side, Johnny Blaze! Now Johnny’s got two big problems: a mad biker on his tail and the Spirit of Vengeance in his head! "This (pardon me) bare-bones approach gets back to the basics ? it’s a cool-looking flaming-skull guy on a motorcycle serving out vengeance... this is really, really good.
As Gunmetal prepares to shoot Blaze, in Blaze’s mindscape Blaze appeals to Ghost Rider for help, but Ghost Rider shrugs him off. Blaze snatches for Gunmetal’s gun, pushing it aside so it misses him as Gunmetal fires, and the shot attracts the police’s attention. Gunmetal and Magnus ride off and a mysterious biker rescues Blaze before the police can arrest him. After losing the police, the biker introduces himself as Juneau and explains his father, Merril, whose name Blaze doesn’t recognize, sent him after Blaze. The next morning, Gunmetal and Magnus visit Detective Smith, cryptically warning him about Ghost Rider. Meanwhile, Juneau takes Blaze to a biker camp, where he finds Merril is the mechanic he asked to examine his bike a few days earlier. Merril explains he’s thought about Blaze’s problem with his bike, and concludes it’s Blaze’s refusal to accept Ghost Rider’s role. He asks him to ponder how to overcome vengeance when Ghost Rider emerges and rides off toward Chicago. Along the way, Ghost Rider sees a motorist in a traffic jam angrily threatening violence against another driver who deliberately bumped his car, drawn by the first motorist’s desire for vengeance, Ghost Rider nearly kills the second driver, until the first motorist wards him off by forgiving the bumper. Continuing on to Chicago, Ghost Rider locates Smith dying at the hands of Gunmetal, who forces Smith to ask to be avenged.
