Title:

DC Super-Stars

Synopsis:
First appearance of Huntress II (Helena Wayne), see note below.

––––––––––

• ”Secret Origins of Super-Heroes” – (1-page introduction).

• ”Green Arrow: The Origin of Green Arrow” – (10-page story) – A gunman who was formerly employed by John Deleon, to whom Oliver Queen lost his fortune, holds a woman hostage at gunpoint aboard the deck of a ship. Green Arrow opposes him, seeking the briefcase full of evidence of Deleon’s wrongdoings the gunman carries, but the terrorist insists on Green Arrow leaping overboard in return for his releasing the woman. Green Arrow remembers his origin story, how Oliver Queen once fell off another ship, swam to Starfish Island, learned the use of a makeshift bow, and used it to help defeat a band of pirates who landed on his isle. Green Arrow then manages to take out the gunman, though the briefcase is lost in the sea. He decides that the papers within it don’t have much meaning to him anymore.

• ”Legion of Super-Heroes: The Secret of the Quintile Crystal” – (10-page story) – Superboy learns of the Legion’s first case, in which the three original Legionnaires had to recover the Quintile Crystal from an alien ambassador who had stolen it.

• ”Secret Origins of Secret Origins” – (1-page text article).

• ”Huntress Concept Art” – (1-page illustration) – Joe Staton’s original sketch of the Huntress and rough and pencilled versions of the cover.

• ”Huntress: From Each Ending... A Beginning!” – (13-page story) – The story reveals the death of the Earth-Two Catwoman. Also, it includes a one-page Huntress concept sketch by artist Joe Staton which precedes the story in this issue.

NOTE: Some sources identify this issue as the joint first appearance of the character with All-Star Comics #69. Those sources claim both issues were released on August 24, 1977. However, copyright records state All-Star Comics #69 was published on August 23, while DC Super Stars #17 was published on August 25. Regardless of the two day difference in publication, both issues were distributed at the same time.
