Synopsis:
Set in the Venice Beach neighborhood of Los Angeles across the mid to late 1990s, American History X follows Derek Vinyard, a fiercely intelligent young man who becomes a charismatic and violent neo Nazi skinhead leader following the murder of his father in a predominantly black neighborhood. After committing a savage and racially motivated killing, Derek serves three years in prison where his worldview is profoundly and painfully dismantled through hard experience and an unlikely friendship. Released and desperate to prevent his younger brother Danny from following the same path, Derek confronts the consequences of the hatred he once preached and the near impossibility of outrunning the past.
