Synopsis:

A Bronx hospital in 1969. Dr. Malcolm Sayer, a research physician, begins working at a chronic care facility where dozens of patients have spent decades in a catatonic state following a 1920s encephalitis epidemic. Inspired by the work of neurologist Oliver Sacks, Sayer experiments with the drug L-DOPA and achieves a breakthrough when a long-dormant patient named Leonard Lowe suddenly awakens to full consciousness. Other patients follow. The reawakened individuals must navigate a world that has moved on without them, while Sayer grapples with the limits of medicine and the fragile, temporary nature of the recovery he has set in motion.
