Synopsis:

Based on J. G. Ballard’s autobiographical novel, Empire of the Sun is an inspiring action-packed epic of a small boy in a great war. Christian Bale stars as Jim Graham, a young Briton whose privileged life is upturned by the Japanese invasion of Shanghai, December 8, 1941. Separated from his parents, he is eventually captured by the Japanese and taken to Soo Chow internment camp. Amidst sickness and food shortages, his unconquerable spirit soars high and free while at the same time his hold on his childhood weakens as his struggle to survive grows fiercer.
