A young, wealthy art history student named Victor Geddes advertises for a live-in nurse/aid to help him during his chemotherapy for leukemia. Hilary O’Neil, who is in need of a new job and coming off of a soured relationship, applies for and gets the job. Living in the Geddes mansion is a foreign experience for her, but she soon sees that the rich have their frailties too. The awkward closeness of the situation allows the cultural dividing wall to finally be breached. Hilary, being made to believe that the round of chemo is over, agrees to accompany victor to a rental house on the coast for some relief from the stresses of treatment.
