Title:

Becket

Synopsis:
In 12th-century England and France, the film follows the turbulent relationship between King Henry II and his close companion Thomas Becket, a Saxon-born man who rises through royal favor to become Chancellor of England. When Henry appoints Becket as Archbishop of Canterbury, expecting a compliant ally within the Church, Becket instead embraces his new role with unexpected devotion and begins defending the rights of the Church against the Crown. The resulting conflict between the two former friends escalates over several years, drawing in the French court and the Pope, and ultimately leading toward a violent confrontation at Canterbury Cathedral.
