Title:

Classic Cuts Collection - Modern Epics

Synopsis:
Content: 4 fabulous adventures in their best Sunday suits. All look and sound as good as they should. BRIDGE is pulled from the 2-disc Special Edition with the extras: Trivia Sabotage: Building the Bridge, Maps & Military Strategy. (The credit sequence has always looked like a different film stock, strangely unattended, but easy enough to get passed.) GUNS is fully loaded: Commentary, featurettes, Message from Carl Foreman, Great Guns, Honeymoon on Rhodes, No Visitors, Two Girls on the Town, Filmographies, "Memories of Navarone” documentary, Trailer. MAN is as it is in its only edition, without extras. (And as with BRIDGE, the credits take a back seat. Not nearly so severe for it only involves the first shot backing the front credits. A vertical white line and some speckling flash by quickly. Why THAT wasn’t cleaned up with remastering remains a head-scratcher. Otherwise, it’s a fine transfer.) JIM is also without extras, and does NOT for me display the ordinary look critics claim. These four were viewed on a 39” Sony. They are anamorphically enhanced. Enjoy watching the bouncing price. Patience will get this for a steal! p.s. Film critics and film fans are not the same. Passing judgement vs. just lying back and enjoying the view. I suppose, collecting a salary gives reason. So it is with listening to J. Lee Thompson’s commentary on GUNS. What a pleasure riding along with his soft-spoken, unpretentious, screen specific narration. Perhaps too relaxed and obvious, maybe, it nevertheless was fun to sit awhile with a near-legendary filmmaker.
