Joyride

Joyride is het derde studioalbum van het Zweedse duo Roxette, uitgegeven op 28 maart 1991 door EMI. Na het populaire ”It Must Have Been Love” en het zeer goed verkochte studioalbum Look Sharp!, werd Joyride minstens zo succesvol met de gelijknamige nummer 1-hit ”Joyride”.[1] Het album stond in meerdere landen wekenlang op nummer 1 en tot op de dag van vandaag zijn er inmiddels meer dan 11 miljoen exemplaren van verkocht.


Swedish pop duo, formed in 1986 in Halmstad by Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson.

The group enjoyed worldwide success from the late 1980s until the mid-1990s, gaining nineteen UK Top 40 hits and four US #1 singles with, ”The Look”, ”Listen to Your Heart”, ”It Must Have Been Love” and ”Joyride”. Two further singles ”Dangerous” and ”Fading Like a Flower” hit #2. Finally, ”Dressed for Success” was a modest hit in the US peaking at #14.

After a hiatus in the mid-1990s, their popularity continued in other territories such as Europe and South America, where they earned various Gold and Platinum awards until the beginning of the new millennium. In 2002 the duo took a break from recording and touring when Fredriksson was diagnosed with a brain tumour. In 2009 Roxette took to the stage together again for the first time in 8 years, during Gessle’s European Party Crasher tour.

Their songs continue to receive radio airplay, with ”It Must Have Been Love” and ”Listen to Your Heart” both recently receiving awards from BMI for achieving four million radio plays. They have sold an estimated 60 million records worldwide, with over 3.5 million record sales in the United States, achieving platinum for Joyride and Look Sharp! there.
