In 1925, air races were popular – and the Curtis R3C-1 – one by plane was created to compete! Over the water races a sea plane version was built and equipped with streamlined wooden floats. Known as the R3C-2. It won the most prestigious Schneider Cup Race in Bayshore Park, Baltimore, after averaging more than 230 mph the following day it would set a world speed record of 245 mph.
