Balancing function and fantasy, the great designers of the 20th century have created some of the most beautiful shoes ever made, adapting styles from the past with a contemporary sensibility. This carefully detailed shoe ornament captures the elegance and artisanship of the actual shoes, now in the collection of the Museum’s Costume Institute.
The Embroidered Mule Shoe Ornament is based on a pair of American or European mules (ca. 1927). We’ve reinterpreted the original black shoes, embellished with a striking floral design, into a hand-painted ornament.
