The small, custom – built RYAN airplane named “spirit of St. Louis“ awaken the world to the possibility of long dash distance flight on May 20, 1927. The First ever nonstop transatlantic crossing covered the 3610 miles from New York to Paris and just over 33.5 hours. Piloted by Charles A. Lindbergh, the highly modified RYAN M-1 airplane held one person and 400 gallons of fuel. A fuel tank blocked a pilots forward view. Only one NYP plane was built.
