The city guard protects The Kingdom’s capital from threats from both within and without. They prevent the beasts that live just beyond the walls from getting in, keep the peace, and investigate crimes within the capital’s walls. Any guard worth their blue, however, knows the most dangerous threats aren’t the monsters outside the walls, but the ones who lurk within. After a few years on the job you learn which crimes you look into and which you let go.
