There’s more than one way to settle a dispute in the Kingdom. When words fail, duelists take center stage. Any bird of noble rank may challenge another to a duel in order to settle an argument or defend against an insult to their honor. Although duels are rarely fought to the death, it is perfectly legal for bouts between two combatants to end with only one standing. It is only due to long standing tradition and unspoken agreement that modern duels are cut short before loss of life occurs. While only noble birds may duel for honor, many birds make their living in arenas across the land in what has now become The Kingdom’s most popular sport. Birds of great skill compete in duelist tournaments hoping to catch the eye of a noble sponsor and nobles are often on the lookout for skilled dulests to put on retainer in case they are challenged themselves. Though some nobles cannot afford the steep fees that top duelists charge, all know the value of sharp steel in the talons of a skilled bird.
