Title:
The World of Dinosaurs
Description:
United States USPS commemorative stamp souvenir sheet/pane titled ”THE WORLD OF DINOSAURS”. The pane contains fifteen (15) different 32¢ stamps arranged as two irregular groups within two large illustrated prehistoric landscape scenes. Top scene caption reads ”A view in Colorado, 150 million years ago” and shows Jurassic-era animals including Ceratosaurus, Camptosaurus, Camarasaurus, Brachiosaurus, Goniopholis, Stegosaurus, Allosaurus, and Opisthias, plus flying reptiles in the sky. Bottom scene caption reads ”A view in Montana, 75 million years ago” and shows Cretaceous-era animals including Edmontonia, Einiosaurus, Daspletosaurus, Palaeosaniwa, Corythosaurus, Ornithomimus, and Parasaurolophus, plus eggs/nest imagery and pterosaurs overhead. Each stamp is inscribed ”USA 32”. The artwork is a detailed panoramic dinosaur/prehistoric life illustration (commonly credited to James Gurney) with the title band at the top. Perforations form the unusual/irregular stamp group shapes, and the pane is known to have tagging blocks over the upper eight and lower seven stamps.
