Title:

Emperor Joseph II (1780-90) by Adam Jakob

Description:
1908 PRINTING (Mi:AT 141v): The 1908 printing on chalk coated paper is generally much sharper and clearer. The lettering “JOSE PHVS II” is clear. Under magnification one can see that the background of the portrait is made up of regularly spaced dots. The colour in the inked sections has deeper tones and it is a bit uneven (as if in blobs). The stamp’s overall appearance is brighter (less dull) than the 1913 printing. 1913 PRINTING (Mi:AT 141x): The 1913 printing on regular paper is not so sharp and clear. The lettering “JOSE PHVS II” is faint. Under magnification the inked sections are lighter (more grayish) and the background of the portrait appears more solid than dotted. The stamp’s overall colour is duller and slightly more grayish than the 1908 printing.
