According to Sassone, this stamp was issued for use in Lombardy-Venetia in the second half of 1858. Unless cancelled with a clear postmark from Lombardy-Venetia, the stamp is indistinguishable from the main Austrian release of 1853. Sassone, however, regards it as an issue of Lombardy-Venetia and assigns a unique catalog number. To prevent duplication of items, the stamp will only be listed in the catalog once, but will be given the Sassone Lombardy-Venetia catalog code as the first Newspaper stamp for the region.
