Title:
Landing of Columbus 2-cent commemorative stamp
Description:
United States 2-cent ”Landing of Columbus” commemorative postage stamp from the Trans-Mississippi era of classic U.S. issues. The design shows Christopher Columbus and his landing party coming ashore in the New World, with multiple figures in period dress, banners, and flags. The vignette is horizontally engraved and surrounded by an ornate frame, with the value tablets showing ”2” in the upper corners and the inscription ”LANDING OF COLUMBUS” across the bottom tablet. The stamp is printed in a carmine lake or reddish‑purple shade and is line engraved with fine detail in the figures and background. This example is postally used, with a strong black killer cancellation consisting of several thick parallel horizontal bars across the center of the stamp and part of a circular date stamp at left. Perforations surround all four sides. The design corresponds to the classic U.S. commemorative type associated with the 1893 Columbian Exposition issues. No barcode or modern packaging is present; this appears to be a single used off‑paper stamp.
