Eusmilus is an extinct genus of predatory mammal that lived during the Oligocene epoch, approximately 33 to 23 million years ago. It was a member of the family Nimravidae, which were saber-toothed cats that lived in North America and Eurasia during the Paleogene period. Eusmilus was about the size of a large modern-day cougar, with a muscular build and long, saber-like canine teeth that were used for hunting. Its fossils have been found in various parts of North America and Europe. It is believed that Eusmilus became extinct due to competition with other predatory mammals and changes in climate and habitat.
