Title:

Fennek (Fennecus zerda)

Description:
The drawing on the stamp is based on a photo.
Fennecus zerda, commonly known as the fennec fox, is a small nocturnal fox species found in the Sahara Desert of North Africa. It is known for its distinctive oversized ears, which help it to dissipate heat and locate prey in the dark. The fennec fox is the smallest species of canid, with a body length of about 20 cm (8 inches) and a weight of only 0.7 to 1.6 kg (1.5 to 3.5 pounds). It is well adapted to life in the desert, where temperatures can reach up to 50 °C (122 °F) during the day and drop to freezing at night. Fennec foxes are social animals and live in small family groups, usually consisting of a breeding pair and their offspring. They are omnivores, feeding on a variety of foods, including insects, rodents, fruit, and eggs. Fennec foxes are not considered threatened, although their populations are declining due to habitat loss and hunting for their fur and as pets.
