The temple was dedicated to the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus and his family, and was built in the early 3rd century AD. It is one of the major attractions of the Djemila archaeological site and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The 2nd Mediterranean Festival of Timgad was a cultural event held in 1968 in Timgad, Algeria, aimed at promoting Mediterranean culture and fostering cultural exchanges among Mediterranean countries. Djemila, with its ancient Roman ruins, was one of the sites chosen to host events during the festival, hence the issuance of the stamp featuring the Temple of Septimius Severus in Djemila.
