Title:
Stanguellini 1100 Sport Ala d’Oro
Description:
Automobili Stanguellini is an Italian maker of small sports cars, based in Modena and founded by Vittorio Stanguellini; it was most active between 1946 and 1960.1 They continued to produce competition cars until 1981, when Vittorio Stanguellini died; thenceforth, the company devoted to vintage cars. The small italian company Stanguellini built mainly racing cars of various sorts, but for a short period after WW2, a few road cars were offered as well, one of them being this stylish roadster with bodywork by coachbuilder Ala d’Oro The car most people associate with the Stanguellini/Ala d’Oro combination was made a few years earlier and was more of a track racer, whereas this roadster is a true road car.
Stanguellini started as a Fiat dealer, then started to tune Fiat engines, which went so well that he became master tuner for Fiat’s race cars. From here, the step to building his own cars wasn’t very far, and that’s exactly what happened. The basis for this smart roadster is, believe it or not, the modest Fiat 1100, but with Stanguellini’s tuning skills and Ala d’Oro’s beautiful bodywork working together, this car was everything but modest.
