Game Summary:
Gyromite is an early Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) “black box” title designed to be played either with the Robotic Operating Buddy (R.O.B.) accessory or with a second player acting as the “robot.” You play as Professor Hector inside a laboratory filled with obstacles, conveyor belts, and locked red/blue doors. The core puzzle-action gameplay revolves around manipulating the lab’s red and blue door system: switches control doors, and the player must time movements, avoid hazards (including dynamite), and route safely through each stage.

When played with R.O.B., the on-screen “robot” is controlled indirectly: R.O.B. spins and moves physical gyros onto color-coded sensors, which the game reads to trigger in-game switch presses (opening/closing corresponding doors). Without R.O.B., Player 2 can operate the doors manually, preserving the same puzzle structure. The game is notable historically as one of the very few titles built specifically around R.O.B. support and as part of Nintendo’s 1985 NES launch-era lineup.
