Game Summary:
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy:
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (忍者龍剣伝 巴, Ninja Ryūkenden Tomoe) is a 1995 SNES collection containing the three Ninja Gaiden games for the NES. It is also included as a bonus unlockable in 2004’s Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox. The three games are straight ports and were not optimized for the SNES, but there are several differences from the NES versions. Passwords are included and the cinematic sequences were redrawn. The third game is based on the Japanese version, with infinite continues and lower damage from enemy attacks. The ports have no closing credits. Parallax scrolling was removed from the backgrounds of some levels (Ninja Gaiden III stage 2-1 for example). Other graphical changes were made to comply with Nintendo’s ”Family Friendly” censorship policy at the time (i.e. a pool of blood changed from red to green, and the removal of pentagrams).[citation needed] Some music tracks are omitted (two pieces of music from Ninja Gaiden III and the stage 1–1 music in the Ninja Gaiden II pursuit cutscenes). A degree of censorship was actually removed from certain parts of the script (for example, Jaquio’s ”Argh! He’s awake” is replaced with ”Damn, he’s awake.”). Ninja Gaiden Trilogy is a collector’s item; in June 2015 Price Charting showed prices for loose copies running anywhere from 100 to 170 US dollars.
Description:
Here it is! The complete NINJA GAIDEN TRILOGY you asked for. Enjoy the 3 classic Nintendo Ninja Gaiden games on one Super NES Game Pak.
Follow Ryu’s adventures as he fights the ancient forces of darkness with his Ninjutsu powers. Use strategy, cunning and deception to acquire the special ninja weapons needed to be successful in this epic quest.
The Ninja Gaiden series tells it’s story through Tecmo’s unique cinema screen animation. This one is not to be missed!
Content:
Though it is on a more powerful console, the games occasionally suffers from slowdown, unresponsive controls and finicky hit detection, as well as having certain music tracks omitted during cutscenes. There was also censorship added in some areas included changing Jaquio’s blood from red to green. Some of the script from the first game was altered, changing Jaquio’s line ”Argh! He’s awake” to ”Damn, He’s awake.”, as well as several new typos not present in the NES version.
Trilogy also included a password system for all three games, which would let players continue from the beginning of their current act. The password however doesn’t track the ninja power upgrades in II and III.
Changes
Ninja Gaiden:
• Some dialogues were altered slightly, including the removal of censorship by changing ”argh” to ”damn”, but also introduced new typos such as having ”breake” instead of ”break”.
• When the cutscene focuses on the Masked Devil before the first final boss fight, the screen and dialogue texts flash constantly, making objects disappear and reappear continuously until the next screen. This is likely due to a glitch.
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos:
• The color-changing effect for the UI has been removed. Also, the boss music was replaced with the first game’s 5-1 theme, which was also used in Malth’s and the Demon Statue’s boss fights in the said game.
• In cutscenes between 5-1 to 5-2 and 7-1 to 7-2, the 1-1 music was replaced with footstep sounds.
• Jaquio’s blood was changed from red to green. However, other characters’ blood still remain their original colors.
Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom:
• Just like II, the UI now has stationary color, and the boss theme was replaced the same way.
• All damage now deal only one block of damage to Ryu, even for those that originally dealt more blocks of damage in the Famicom version.
• The original 3-2/6-1 theme was removed and replaced with the original’s 4-2 track, while 4-2 and 7-3 now use the 2-1/7-2 music.
• The game in both the Japanese and North American versions of Trilogy have the same difficulty that resembles the harder NES version, which has less checkpoints and more enemies.
