Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King for Nintendo 3DS is a handheld remake of the classic cel‑shaded role‑playing game in the long‑running Dragon Quest series. Players take the role of a young royal guardsman who alone is mysteriously spared when an evil court jester, Dhoulmagus, steals a magical scepter and curses the kingdom, transforming the king into a troll‑like creature and the princess into a horse. Together with these cursed royals and a growing party of allies, the hero travels across a vast, fully 3D world of towns, dungeons, and open countryside to track down Dhoulmagus and ultimately lift the curse.
