Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is a kart racing game for the Nintendo GameCube that introduces two-character karts to the classic Mario Kart formula. Players select teams of two from a large roster of Mushroom Kingdom characters, assigning one to drive and one to handle items. Racers speed through colorful, hazard-filled circuits inspired by locations across the Mario universe, from bustling cityscapes and haunted mansions to volcanic tracks and floating cruise ships. The rear character can unleash both standard and character-specific special items, allowing for aggressive offensive and defensive strategies, while players can swap driver and gunner at any time to adapt on the fly. The game offers multiple engine classes and Grand Prix cups of escalating difficulty, Time Trial challenges against staff ghosts, Versus races with customizable rules, and Battle modes such as Balloon Battle and Shine Thief in dedicated arenas. Locally, up to four players can race or battle on one system, and with a Broadband Adapter and multiple GameCubes, up to eight players can compete simultaneously, each controlling their own kart or teaming up in co‑op. With tight controls, vibrant graphics, and chaotic item-based racing, Double Dash remains one of the most distinctive and party-friendly entries in the Mario Kart series.
