Title:
Cog, Red Target
Description:
Red Cog (Deluxe Weaponizer, 2022)
Accessories: 2 Cog blasters, Chromia blaster & barrel, Ultra Magnus blaster & sniper barrel, welding tool/blaster, energon vial/barrel, pistol/bracket, triple-barrel attachment, 2 bomb-halves
Known designers: Mark Maher (Hasbro), Shogo Hasui (TakaraTomy)
Announced by the official Transformers Instagram as a Target-exclusive addition to the Legacy toyline, Deluxe Class "Red Cog” is a redeco of Siege Cog, transforming from a robot into a Cybertronian armored vehicle and back. Red Cog also has the ability to split into (presumably) Red Gasket and Red Grommet. His official red alternate mode is a red combined half-track vehicle consisting of the two red individual vehicles plugged together. Red Cog still has the design flaw of the flat rectangular tab that holds the two red alt mode halves together not having a particularly tight fit, leading to the red alt mode typically coming apart easily.
Neither mode really has all that much red on them, if we’re being honest.
Red Cog comes with an additional arsenal of weapons, mostly inspired by the War for Cybertron Trilogy cartoon. These include Siege Chromia’s RT-5 Anti-Thermo Blaster with detachable SR Hushfuze silencer, as wielded by both Chromia and Elita-1 on the cartoon, and a miniature version of Siege Ultra Magnus’s RT-15 Stethoscopic Detector with a 5mm post-hole at the end to acommodate an additional long barrel that can be attached to evoke a sniper rifle also used by both Chromia and Elita-1 in animation. Also inspired by the show is a short, rounded weapon whose model variously appeared as a medical tool, welding device and face-removal laser in the cartoon, an energon vial based on those offered to Soundblaster that can double as a long blaster barrel attachment, and a two-part time bomb seen in several episodes (and previously as grenades in Prime). Rounding out the selection is a triple barrel based directly on Combiner Wars Streetwise’s weapon, and an original gun that can also plug into Earthrise Arcee’s back to provide a mounting point to replicate the scene where she combined with "normal Cog” in Siege episode 5.
Red Cog was sold at a higher price point than other currently available Deluxe figures, running as high as $30 as opposed to the $20 standard. This is presumably due to the additional guns not featured in the original release.
